EA: Ronaldin-OW!

EA PSD

On the one hand, Electronic Arts is one of the largest media companies in the world with 7900 employees and $4 billion in revenues. The company has a virtual lock on sports franchise games; for FIFA'08 they have a multi-year licensing and marketing deal with FIFA, the world governing body of the most popular sport on the planet.

On the other hand, they aren't very good at arms.

The hell? It looks like one of those stretch armstrong arms.

This isn't the real cover, just some fan-made one. The real ones look like this: http://dznr.org/h43f

Or it's the US version.. it just looks so unreal, especially with that horribly blurry cut-out

No wonder he plays soccer. Could he play basket or tennis with arms like that?

The box art is different for practically every country. You can see the atrocity here again for Mexico's release. So I don't think it is fan-made.

He's totally holding an invisible soccer -- er, futbol.

I don't get all the fuss...those who follow football religiously know the player's dad is a T-Rex.

Wow. How could the photoshoppers not see the mistake?

Rhody said...

"Do you know about this?"

Wow. xP They're stealing the whole site.

Forget the arm, how much did they do to his TEETH?

Out of the three, he looks like he's taking the most satisfying dump, though.

That sentence puzzles me.

The sentence I'm free about my preferred gender puzzles me.

I can make that arm movement. It's just a question of why the hell they had him pose like that. It looks mad awkward.

They all look like monkeys. Vaguely deformed monkeys with badly cut out hair.

It's an epidemic! Must be cosmic rays or something.

calophi said...

It isn't the arm's position or movement that makes this a disaster. It's the fact that they made it look flat as it connects back to his elbow. It's atrocious! XD

Timmermann said...

Maybe he should wear a long shirt ;)

Thom Dinsdale said...

Maybe his arm just looks like that...

flanagan said...

I think his hair is more of a disaster than his arm. It looks like they stole it from an episode of the Hair Bear Bunch.

Oh, and...
SPARTAAAAAAAAA!

What's the miscellaneous hair between the heads of the middle guy and guy on the right?

Karen said...

Craptacular!

It's not the arm that catches my eye. It's the fact that all three of them have a facial expression that suggests they were just kicked in the nuts.

Whos that nice looking girl on the right?

mexico's goalkeeper...

I was looking at thew middle guy's face at Target and thought he looked a little off.

"I said, MAKE THAT ARM FIT IN THE PICTURE!! We're EA Sports, d@mmit!!"

It looks like he just realized something horrible has happened to his arm and that's the moment they snapped the picture, haha. :)

It's a real cover and not fan-made, found it on several web stores. We've got another cover in northern Europe but this is one of the real cover art designs.

the problem started when they chose the wrong picture.

at least they fixed his teeth

There are other sites stealing pictures of Photoshop Disasters! Check here: http://static.iftk.com.br/mt/2008/06/photoshop_disasters_mistakes_i.html

When you see the original picture (see URL above from another anonymous), you understand the problem. Ronaldhino has his elbow way back, but since he is alone there is nothing wrong in the original pic. OTOH on the cover art, there is someone behind him, so our brain tells us his elbow can't be that far back, so the arm looks weird because we can't find the right perspective.

Rhody said...

The real problem is that it looks like his sleeve is only about an inch wide so there's no way a human arm could possibly come out of there without being ridiculously thin. Look at the original pic again. The problem is the photochopped shirt and elbow.

Anonymous said...

My aaaaaaarrrrm!!!!!

AnnieMcPhee said...

Anonymous, you are partially right - the original picture is fine, and he does have his elbows way back and the perspective is just way off when they shopped other people in with him.

However. When you look at the original and the OP side by side, they DID do some shop work on the sleeve by the elbow, creating creases. Maybe they thought they were making it look better. But it doesn't; it makes it look worse.

modemlooper said...

why oh why do they always have the guys o sports game boxes look as though they are about to perform blowjobs?

Anonymous said...

Ok, there is the thing, the elastic man and the flame guy. Where is invisible girl? was she invisible during the photo? XD

Patrice said...

Now, it's the facial expressions that make this one funny to me.

OH HOLY MOTHER OF GOD MY EYES

i was looking at a game informer and a dude drew the arm like that!

This cover art only re-inforces the soccer-is-totally-gay stereotype. Open wide!

Sean said...

I think this is appropriate for soccer. Ever see those freeze-frame shots of a soccer ball bent almost in half by a kick? That's what his arm looks like.

"Most popular sport on the planet"? C'mon, PsD, if you're so attentive to detail, get your facts straight.

of course [yes I realise this comment is years later] you don't really need arms to play soccer - so -well - its understandable. . .
