Anatomy is sooo overrated these days. Refreshingly original approach to the human form, from the silly putty arm to the alien thumb and oddly proportioned fingers, what's not to like? The big clumsy hand serves to draw the viewers eye to the product being sold, so it works for me.
And part of me hopes this is just the result of a wide-angle lens (or the attempts to nullify the distortion from the lens), which would explain the strange foreshortening.
They tried to give the picture perspective by blurring out some of it, and 3D by making the arm rubber. They obviously can't afford copies of their own product, and thus used a cheaper version, Photoshop. No PsD. (Kidding, please spare me)
While I love this site and it's general concept, this is no PsD, imho. I"m a photographer, and the distortion you all attributed to photoshop is simply a wide-angle lens. If you don't believe me, go look at the other pics on their site - in context it all becomes much clearer.
@ Ludwig - if it was used a wideangle lens, then how come the monitor doesn't show any barrel distortion? Nor her head does. Nothing in this pic looks distorted, actually, except the size of her hand.
Only if they did use a wideangle lens (possibly), then tried to correct the distortion in Photoshop (possibly?).
If this is the case (like someone's already mentioned), then.... ZOMG!
All in all I'd say: nice idea of a shot, sloppy execution.
@ Ludwing (one more thing) - also, a wideangle lens would give more DoF for the shot and her face looks a little blurred -pixelized, to be more accurate-, while her hand is still sharp.
Look at her arms in the other two pics from the link that David and Alex posted: http://www.akihabaranews.com/en/news-18476-LG+Launching+App+Store+In+South+Korea.html Is this strange looking perspective or does she has detachable arms?
And, you know, she's not even a great looking model. I mean, I guess as a woman she's not bad looking, but as a model? Not so much. This one is just a disaster all around.
guys... it's obviously a wide lens (odd angle, but still, it looks like a shot). the phone and the monitor are PsDs, yes.
it's not a TV, it's a computer monitor. the picture is blurred because the actual store might not look like that and also to discourage people checking out the apps ahead of time (marketing tweaks).
Her thumb and pinky are not from the same hand as the other three fingers. I wonder if the reattachment hurt. She has to sit like that because of the earthquake they are shooting in. You can see the dangerous slope of the floor behind her, and things are starting to slide, pushing her ever closer to the abyss. First to hit her is an LG monitor. Unable to call for help on her new LG phone, all she can do is wave aps at us.
WV: rofshie: rolling on the floor, shitting everywhere?
I honestly believe this isn't a photoshop disaster if we're talking about the distortion of her body. Being a photographer, I know of this sneaky little thing called a wide angle lens or a fisheye lens... Those lenses create very odd looking distortion because the lens is rounded.
If there's something else I'm missing and that isn't the disaster... then ignore this comment.
Funny thing is that I've raised a couple of questions about the so-called 'distortion' and no one who entitles oneself as 'photographer' managed to reply me.
I'm a photographer (amateur, but still knowledgeable about wideangles and fisheyes) as well and STILL think that the photos from LG are really weird.
The only thing I can think off is that they did use a wideangle lens and the tried to correct the distortion.... although I still think that the pic lacks DoF for a wideangle.
@ Gabriel Dias: I second that. Also, I believe, that the photographers who think this is a fish-lense-effect don't read any of the comments.
I don't see any distortion except for the hand. I mean, if this were shot with a wideangle lens, wouldn't at least everything around her hand be distorted as well?
I am NOT a photographer, but in my opinion, you can't make a wideangle shot of just one detail (the hand) and leave the rest out. So this picture obviously has been edited afterwards, which classifies as a PsD. Even more so, if the editing doesn't make any sense. I mean, they do work with ridiculously distorted faces in advertisment sometimes, but that's clearly supposed to be funny. But what's funny about a deformed hand? I don't get the message of this ad, and that girl's thumb actually frightens me.
Anyone else notice that her dress pattern by her leg goes up INTO the monitor's frame? That isn't a reflection, that's an overlay. (If it is a reflection, then why doesn't the side of the monitor reflect her?)
If you use any of the publicly available ELA tools, you can see that the small handheld device was added to her hand. I'm guessing that they had to shrink her thumb to fit the device.
Caption: "Easy to use keypad for people with stumpy fingers!"
@Hacker Factor: The frame is transparant on the bottom (see e.g. LG W2053TQ).
@Nina (and other non-photographers): 1. You clearly can see the distortion on the building in the background. 2. With a fast lens you also get a narrow depth of field, esp. if you are at a near distance. See e.g. a photo by photographer Ryan Brenizer.
Nah, not wide angle lens distortion - her body and head are in proportion roughly. If this was shot with a wide angle she'd have tiny little hips. It looks like she and the background are from the same shot, if it was a wide angle shot the hallway she is in would look miles long and there would be some drastic scale changes visible. I think the monitor was also in the original shot. I think they comp'd in the screen and the hand and the phone.
Luke DeLalio, I disagree with your opinion that the monitor was in the original photo. Look at the line going across the hallway, behind the creature, the floor is angled drastically to the left. the monitor is not sitting on that angled floor by any stretch of the imagination.
"No, I said keep the PHONE the same size, NUMBNUTS. Do you know NOTHING about selling? Keep the PRODUCT prominent, shrink the LADY to fit, KAPEESH? What? Oh, do what you like with the thumb. You're the creative."
Yes, back in the 1960's, technology really WAS bigger than your hand. And many people had their left arms cut short, and had VERY flexible fingers. My, my, how the world has changed...

Well, the face and right arm are all right.

Invisible blurry filter for LCD! - buy one, get two!
try holding a phone and getting your fingers to look like that. I don't think she's a good typist.
er, well, she has a cute smile, which makes up for her freaky-looking fingers ._.
Now here's a phone that will always come in Handy ...
LG Phones
If they're good enough for Gumby, they're good enough for you.
Got to give LG a hand for their fantastic graphics department!
Just because you've had your thumb reattached should not keep you from hand modeling.
nothing wrong with her hand guys
Suffer from BlackBerry Thumbs?? Try the new LG touch screen!!
A phone so awesome it has its own gravity well!
In her previous line of work she was a circus act who walked on her hands. Unfortuantly, this meant hand-binding to fit into her choice of shoes.
AHAHAHAHAH! This must have been done by the same shop that made the fucking bottle of shitass perfume bigger.
Hey!! You assholes down in the art dungeon!! MAKE THAT FUCKING PHONE BIGGER!!!!!
OK, BOSS!!!!!
[cut hand+phone]
[double pixels]
[paste back in and smooth onto wrist]
DONE!!!
The other pictures in the linked post are strange looking, too.
The link to the original post, with the weird pictures, is below.

"All Thumbs"
Peek-a-boo! Can you see the 2nd of my 6 fingers?
Are those LG phones the same size as an iPhone? If so, that phone is way too large in her hand.
Along with the odd foreshortening on the thumb, her hand is in sharp focus but the rest of her is slightly blurred.
Then there's the magically blurred image on the LCD screen. What?
That is the *shiniest building I've ever seen*.
Nice to see that Sailor Moon is still getting work...

"Boss, the picture on the monitor is blurry!"
"Just put it next to some model's boobs and nobody will notice."
In the link that David posted:

You can see that her hand has been cut wholesale out of Photo 2 and pasted into Photo 1.
LG launch the world's lowest resolution monitor. "Pixel count is an overrated concept" claimed the product manager.

Bad photography, though.
I'd still do her.
My girlfriend can do that.
"So, our iPhone clone also comes with its own Reality Distortion Field (tm). Look! It's making the TV go all blurred, see?"
yosufis talking!
it's great to be here isn't it?
goodbye now

I'm too hung over to help you with your caption. aaahhhhh omg vodka tonic omg aaahhhhhh my head!
``I'm sorry, sir, but the only model we can find has an artificial pig's hand.''
``Well, comp something worse in to direct attention away from it.''
It seems she wrote too many SMS using her thumb :)
would you like a fuzzy computer, a clear phone, and a messed up appendage? well, LG has got ALL three!!
Her thumb and pinky are not from the same hand as the other three fingers. I wonder if the reattachment hurt. She has to sit like that because of the earthquake they are shooting in. You have to hand it to the editor for taking such a bold stance against human anatomy.
Holy crap I have that monitor. Will my hand grow like that or do I also need the phone for that to happen?

LG: They make phones as big as your head. *Warning: Overuse may lead to hand anomolies requiring cosmetic surgery.
Cool...

I am not a photographer, but a graphic artist, and I still don't see any distortion except for the hand of doom.
I am neither a photographer nor a graphic artist. But I am fucked up on drugs. Every bit of that picture looks fine to me, especially her hand.
Wow - stick arms with a HUGE hand. I sure HOPE her pic is Photoshopped.

so this is a FuzzyLogic screen?
Cute girl. Too bad about the hand deformity.

guys am i the only one who gets the facehugger [ aliens ] vibe from the hand O_o i didnt think id notice squat if i didnt check the comments .
but damn O_o definatly almost undetectable *now im wary with even buying a ipod, cus of the possible Facehugger fingers*
Well, she DOES have a mean left-hook.
if you have to stare at it too long to find the "disaster"... I dont think it's a "disaster"...just sayin.
have a hideously deformed hand? there's an app for that!
I don't see the issue, when I see a cute Asian chick, my first thought is always "hand job".
at least they got the electronics right side up. i've seen to many PsD's on this site with wrong way up electronics :D
It's Joey's identical hand twin!
This first thing that stuck out was the annoying blurry screen. But now I see the weird hand as well.
They seem to have messed with her eyes as well
Please buy the iPhone and help me afford a new arm! I'm begging you!
With that many fingers, she'll do more that push the phone's buttons!
Phone deformed your hand? Don't worry, we have an app for that too.
she seems to have the hands of a crab
