The name "Bones" comes not from Lt Uhura from Star Trek, rather from Dr. McCoy of the same serie; it is based upon the character of Temperance Brennan created by the writer Kathy Reichs who is also a paleontoligist.
Rick - No, I'm pretty sure that desk is fake. Entirely. The surface looks painted.
Good god, these actors work together on real sets, with real props, their hair and wardrobe done, EVERY DAY for months at a time. How effing hard would it be to say "okay, after lunch, we just need you over in this office set for 25 minutes to take a photo."
Not a PSD. This was obviously shot with the new Broncolor 6 Sun lighting system... you're seeing it a lot in Hollywood right now. Everyone wants to get that edgy PSD look it seems.
Her fingers actually end about 2 inches before the bend in the knuckles. Perhaps if she was half wolf this might be possible. Would have been better to say to hell with perspective and have normal fingers. It hurts looking at it.
Actually, I'm very sorry to say that the reason these cast photoshops are becoming popular in Hollywood is not (obviously) that they are bad but because, actually, they are pretty good. Long bones aside, look how beautifully lit and in focus everybody's face is, yet at the same time there are interesting shadows in the room and reflections on the table. I'm sure some of you appreciate how difficult that is to achieve in a real photoshoot? Or how 'bland' a real photo of 6 mugs in a half-lit room would look? I am being serious!
Yes. I know you are. The sheer creativity of seven light sources for six people and one skull is something that can't be taught in school. The chicita in the shadowy corner with no shadows at all takes it over the top from Fail Blog quality, past Monty Python quality, right into sheer brilliance. However, the offset chair base knocks it down to commonness.
Alright... This time I'm going to say that it isn't a PSD.
There are many types of pictures: - Real photos - Real photos, digitally enhanced - Computer generated - CG, digitally enhanced and of course: - CG with a real base
In the latter category, you start with a real photo, but redraw the entire thing so it becomes a caricature. No part of the real photo exists -- the real photo was just used for a rough outline.
In caricatures, the artist intentionally overemphasizes attributes to convey a meaning. Like the french fry LOOKS soggy because the woman in the middle totally likes soggy french fries. Nobody has symmetrical eyes because they all are supposed to be giving you that come-hither look. And only one tray has a reflection because it is the mysterious one! (The mystery is "where is the light reflected in the table coming from?")
It is a drawing. It is a caricature. It is a farce. It is intentional.
Granted, it is a really bad drawing, but it isn't a PSD. Besides, Photoshop wasn't the last thing they did to it. The last save used libgd -- not part of Photoshop, so not a Photoshop Disaster.
@waldobaby - no idea what a chicita is, and point taken about the misplaced chair legs.
And, I know HackerFactor is being sarcastic (and has the types of pictures rather confused), but the point is that there is a good reason people 'try' to put these pics together (and sometimes end with PSDs) - and that's because they do convey the message better than a normal photo would. Caricature is maybe a good description for them. Clearly the long arms, misplaced chair-legs and bad reflections are a mere side-effects of not doing the job right...
I see this picture and think to myself, have they even seen spacetime? In what universe does this picture look correct?
Anyway, this should have been a Comping Trip Gone Awry. And that chick in the back... it's called chroma. Match your color spaces before you slap pictures together.
Lt Uhura has an extremely deformed forearm and hand. The forearm twists in a really painful (and probably impossible in nature) fashion and the hand looks like a combination human/primate hand and some type of foot.
WV: crucl although with the sans-serif type it looked like crud which would have been too perfect.
Disasters: - Girl leaning on the wall looks very artificial; - Guy next to the door stands in an odd position for a photo shoot; - Guy with crossed arms has a "xxxxxl" left hand; - Reflections on the table look very artificial; And, finally; people who read this comment look UGLY (hehehe, jk).
wow, some people get defensive about their star trek. but, um, if you're going to correct the obviously intentional errors, it helps if you give accurate information.
people who specialize in HUMAN remains are generally called "anthropologists" and not "paleontologists". "paleo-" generally denotes pre-human history. as such, "bones" is about a forensic anthropologist. but that first comment was pretty funny, i have to admit.
anyways. other than the sub-par comp-job, and the inadvertent amputation that should have just been avoided with a simple crop, i'm not seeing the PSD. there's a lot of terrible POSING involving hands (especially on tamara taylor/dr. saroyan), but that's all behind-the-camera type stuff.
speaking as a photographer, i would have tried to adjust that pose. the extremely long look for the arm comes from it being too forward relative to her body, the high waist in her dress, her forward lean, the fact that her wrist is locked, and probably too wide of a lens being used. but her arms look to me to be about the same, and the right lengths.
the comping trip though? it's kind of obvious the editor wasn't looking at the big picture often enough. still, we've all seen worse, here.
@Stangbo: Nice job catching the joke. Also, if you're going to correct someone, check your facts, no-one on the show ever actually said "Beam me up, Scotty", so either way would be just as incorrect. Except PSD gets a pass, as they were using it for humour.
good call, Onlymi. ever see "An American Warewolf in London"? they do a close-up of the dude's hand as it stretches out when he turns into a warewolf. i think that chick on the right is in the process of becoming a warewolf. can chicks become warewolves or is that just a guy thing?
This is so crappy. Besides Emily Deschanel looking like she's eating french fries and besides the phantom chair... from the close up I think Tamara Taylor got an alien hand transplant.
@Kasey and @Robbie The bones in the tray are definitely a ulna on the left and a radius on the right, and seem about the right size. In her hands that is a clavicle, Robbie, it curves the correct way for a clavicle and appears to be the right thickness and size. my gripe is that a skull should never be on a metal tray like it on shows--it can damage fragile bones--but it's tv so it gets a pass. /osteology rant

my paleontologist can do that.
"Baroque anatomy"? Everything is wrong with that comp job.
Hey, my legs aren't too short, they reach down to the ground, don't they? And so do my arms, huh?
@Adam - was anyone from the cast in that room? Ever? Is it even a real room?
wv: dapho - When daffy just isn't good enough.
I count at least 12 photos to make this composite. The only "real" photo is the office with the empty desk.
Hey, can I X ray your arm?
http://capturedthroughthelense.blogspot.com/
My office has a problem with phantom rolling chairs too.
That one chick's gonna fall over.
The eyes of the lady in the middle are melting which is a good thing as she will not notice her missing legs.

Why can't anyone just take a picture of their whole damn cast anymore?
Adam is right. The whole thing is a complete mess.
'Well, here we all are then'
or not.

@etherea,
I think he knows this. He also said Beam Me Up, Spocky. It's a joke.
I just wonder why it is so hard to get the cast together on the same day, in the same room, and take a picture. Why these lame comp jobs?
Er, I get the distinct impression this was done as a fan job and not as official material. In fact, I really hope my impression is right.
lol whats up with the reflection on the desk? its like from another dimension or something.
My first thought was "very short bones.". The bones on the tray are a humerus (upper arm) and a femur (upper leg). They shouldn't be the same length.
Apologies if I misidentified the bones. I'm using a small IPod screen.
I'd love to know where they bought that office chair from. Beyond?
At least they got the reflection of the skull exactly right. Er...
Her fingers actually end about 2 inches before the bend in the knuckles. Perhaps if she was half wolf this might be possible. Would have been better to say to hell with perspective and have normal fingers. It hurts looking at it.
Thanks okay, most of Fox News broadcasts are just as badly faked. Kinda fits if you think about it.

Everything about this picture is awful. Could they really not take a photo of these people sitting at a table together? Why is that so hard?
The guy in the doorway is in the most awkward position.
OH, I GET IT!
There are probably a bunch of graphic designers/manipulators taking bets that their next professional submission is going to be posted here.
Yeah, that's got to be it!!!! Now, it all makes sense.
And as you can see, many are trying REALLY hard to get their work published and subsequently commented on.
(Guess that is a compliment to the editor/creator of this blog.)
I can almost hear them snickering as they adjust their Levels.
Hm, well here's a version of the original picture that this monstrosity came from.
http://www.daemonstv.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/08/bones_11-two-shot-office_rjwf2.jpg
As you can see, they put a couple of actors in place of a desk lamp. I feel the desk lamp probably has more emotion - and better proportions.
I see this picture and think to myself, have they even seen spacetime? In what universe does this picture look correct?
Anyway, this should have been a Comping Trip Gone Awry. And that chick in the back... it's called chroma. Match your color spaces before you slap pictures together.
"The fact that there is no chair back behind me is NOT a PSD.
I'm standing up. Honest!"
"MM-MMM! Finger-lickin' good!"
Some of the background people (especially that one lady leaning against the wall) look copy-and-pasted into the picture.
Lt Uhura has an extremely deformed forearm and hand. The forearm twists in a really painful (and probably impossible in nature) fashion and the hand looks like a combination human/primate hand and some type of foot.

Bones is a TV show based on the cranky doctor from Star Trek, Leftenant Uhura, who was famous for his catchphrase, "Beam me up Spocky."
1. I'm pritty sure he said Scotty, thats because the caracter was from Scottland.
2. And Lt. Uhura was a woman and she was no doctor in the serie.

@Stangbo: oh really? check word "sarcasm" in your wikipedia
And yep it's official! It is not possible to gather all the cast in one room to take a shoot! Oh no it isn't! And stop asking!
Stangbo is a credit to homeschooling.

STOP THAT,
angela looks like she's not there because she knows life is efemerous... and camille is finally revealing her nature as a mutant boss...
Also, check it out both hodgins and bones have no legs, maybe the gormagon got to them!

@Alguém : Was ephemerous intentionally misspelled to allude to a femur? 'cause you know - that's a humerus she's holding, right?
:)
Nope, she's holding a clavicle, and it's even the right size. The (presumed) humerus and femur in the tray are very worrying.
WV: squatedg. The seated characters look funny because they squat on the edg of the chairs.
