So Hosni Mubarak was at the White House, presumably to plot evil health insurance reform with our President. Well it's too boring complicated for me to explain it; here's The Guardian's take on it and the original source of the story.
This is only a disaster, and a political disaster at that, because a discrepancy between two pics was noted. Otherwise this fits the intended audience well. The problem with background clutter was taken care of in a way; the shoppista didn't have the luxury of hiding details in white noise. Like a river perhaps. No disaster.
"have a track record of subtly "improving" pictures of Egypt's political elite"
Subtly, right? Riiiiiight :D
I always thought editorial images weren't allowed to be Photoshopped *LOL* Naive of the peeps over there to think they would get away with a scam of this proportions.
I like how they've tried to give Mubarak some kind of shadow... but seeing that first picture, it's apparent the shadow should be to the right and not in a lump behind him.
Looks like they've mirrored Mubarak too... On the original his tie goes to the left, on the other it goes in the right... Haha!
@ Angela: No, they don't. Look at Mubaraks left - ehm... right..? arm. This arm doesn't belong to him. And furthermore: just try to walk swinginging both arms forwardly like he does... it's uncomfortable
As you can see (when you look closely), the two photos aren't identical. The lower one has been taken about a 1/15 of a second after the upper one. More than enough time for Mubarak to tunnel from position 5 to position 1! No photoshopping to see here, folks, move on!
Sorry 'Lou', if my site sucks, does not need much less scribed below, because there were always critical, and you're also too stupid for not knowing how to differentiate a blog from a site!
A bad photoshop and also something idiot. Why the guest would guild everybody? Like he know's where he's going? If that was in the middle of somewhere else, change the position would not be a big deal. But this way sounds like he is one of those guests who can think they can do everything on your house. Go to any room, open your wardrobes and drawers and everything. They wanted to make it look like their president is more important. But they actually made him look super rude. And a foot shorter.
I find it rather interesting, that after all these millennia, the Egyptians still value their traditions. If you look at pictures from Ancient Egypt, the king was ALWAYS pictured in frontal position and bigger than everyone else. Ah, good old days...!
Doh, you guys are so stupid. Clearly the first picture depicts some world leaders walking down yer every-day, plain, red carpet in some dingy yank palace or whatever. The second picture is the same people been given a flight on Mubarak's very own magic flying carpet: naturally he will be at the front - who else can fly a magic flying carpet?

... can't help hearing the song Little Green Bag in my head when I see that picture...
The leg of the man on the right has been removed.
Although quite hard to see on the original, you can still see his foot, and leg behind the other.
On the photoshopped, this is not visible anymore.

They also flipped Mubarak.
Imagine if you could do this with photo finish images at horse races.

Why the need to change the color of Obama's tie?
Hames family
AND they changed the color of the carpet edges to match the drapes. Hmph.
They look like bowling pins either way.

At least they removed the "Image for Placement Only" text (because elephants never forget).
Umm. At least everyone has their own body parts?

Lovely crisp shadows cast by the body parts that have the white background.
@waldobaby
Surely the disaster isn't that the guy was moved, but that he was moved so badly?
You did look at the shadow in the 'shopped version, right? And the cardboardy arms?
they appear to have put drop shadow on the guy on the right.
i've always thought ot this as a graphic effect. not something for photo manipulation.....

pootpoot: I'm guessing they were playing a game of statues and Mubarak is real good at it.

I can't think why they felt the need to need to fiddle with the colour of the ties though...
PS: When they were at it, why didn't they photoshopfix his lopsided tie?
WF: culever. That wasn't a very culever PS job.
(Ha, I haven't even seen that Jonny has already made a remark about Obama's tie's color.)
Interessante os detalhes!

The first picture was taken a few seconds before the gentleman ran in front of Barack.

People with zero knowledge of grammar should not be calling others stupid.
English classes are available at your local community college, sweet cheeks.
The old rule was never be at either end of a group photo. too easy to be cropped out. New rule: Whatever!
So much to do about so little. And really, anything to make the Egyptian leader look better can't hurt!

so embarassing! I didn't know photo censorship has political implications, too.
