Coca-Cola: Snap-to-Point

Coca Cola PSD

Farid is clearly gifted at convincingly gripping a to-be-inserted-later bottle. But the legendary cotortionist Aishwarya Rai is known the world around for adjusting the size and shape of her limbs to fulfill the wanton desires of any ad exec. “I will happily dislocate my own shoulder if I can contribute carbonated refreshment to the world.”

Thanks Laszlo.

    so? where is the disaster?

    • http://www.facebook.com/people/Jonn-W/505015118 Jonn W.

I measured it. Her left arm would have to be an inch or two away from her socket to be in that pose.

    • Tony

What? At best do you honestly think that he is holding that bottle of soda?

      • http://twitter.com/kappesante kappe sante

i can do that, no problem

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_TJPB72PV7LFML7JYXC3RYJBOVI LouisM

I can actually do that, the arm thing right? It’s an odd pose but not a psd

    • kelseigh

You can do it while leaving your shoulders level? I certainly can’t.

      • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_TJPB72PV7LFML7JYXC3RYJBOVI LouisM

Yeah I can, maybe I’m jointed differently. I can also do some weird things with my fingers.

  • kelseigh

Farid, if that IS his real name, is cropped a bit awkwardly. It looks like he’s stooping to stay in frame.

The sizing on the right bottle seems really odd to me.

  • http://twitter.com/JaKhris Christopher Nielsen

Her right shoulder is set as if she was holding her right arm like the left one, down her body, and not over her head. Is that it? I don’t know if it’s really a disaster, her hair hides everything.

    • Waldobaby

If that were an untouched pose, the disaster (a negative PSD) is in NOT using PS to fix that terrible awkwardness. This whole ad makes Coca Cola look awkward. That’s a di$a$ter.

  • Eduardo

The posture of Aishwarya Rai is not possible without bending your head to make room for your arm. Therefore it is a photoshop disaster.

    • Toragurl03

Um, no, I really can do that…. I’m really flexible though. My head just barely tilts forward.

  • Rei

    …maybe she really is a contortionist, I don’t know. But really, how did they think they could get away with that? xD;;;

  • http://twitter.com/Daniel_Gardner Daniel Gardner

On the original page, this PSD is listed and makes me cringe even more. Horrific:

Looking thru that collection of pics I am struck by her amazing ability to change race so often and easily…

  • Ricardo_Ribeiro

Oh cmon you guys, stop bitching about the new team. this is a Photoshop disaster, are you blind? I mean her arm cant be like that in that specific shoulder position Gee… whats so difficult to get?
About the pic just gotta say “ouch”

    • http://www.facebook.com/gormster Morgan Harris

Actually I can pretty easily get my arm into that position, though I am double-jointed in my shoulder. (I do it all the time to stretch, when I yawn, etc. and people tend to freak the fuck out.) Though her left arm is significantly smaller than her right, and those bottles have been inserted horribly. What is so hard about getting a model to hold an actual bottle? Jesus.

If it’s possible or not, this is still a disaster, because as you said, it LOOKS WEIRD and isn’t a good image for an ad campaign. Having hyper-flexibility in your shoulders is, as far as hyper-flexibility goes, rather common, but it still creeps out those with average flexibility and is not pretty to look at. Just sayin’.

No art director should have found this to be a desirable image for an ad.

      • Jo Spargo

A regular person with good flexibility should be able to do this. I do yoga and can do it easily. Do some exercise people!

  • Pauldavy

Gravity is also a cruel and unpredictable mistress rather than a constant. Why else would the fizzy liquid in Farid’s bottle tilt so?

  • Screamingmimi90

Isn’t a photo that looks wierd a PSD? Even if there is no alteration involved? I thought a PSD was a photo that looks strange whether or not they used photoshop. If they used it and messed up, fine. If they should have used it, that counts too. IMHO

  • John Keith

Well, they get points for including his elbow and fingers …

  • kth

I have absolutely no issue with this being labeled a PSD and have no idea why people are complaining about this so much.

HOWEVER… That’s award winning actor and Oscar nominee Aamir Khan, not “Farid.” And PSD calling him Farid is creeping me out.

    • Waldobaby

You DO know that these people were shot at different times, right? These guys look like they were cut out with a razor knife.

That’s Farid or Aamir, who really cares? He’s just another plain un-threatening face and could be replaced with just about anyone except for his one unique skill (other than vicious overacting): he controls different gravities in both his and her bottles. Give thanks also to the photographer who waited until both bottles were perfectly square on. Perfectly! THAT takes patience.

      • Guest

        Yo sh*t is week.

        Ha Ha I said week.

      • kth

“You DO know that these people were shot at different times, right? These guys look like they were cut out with a razor knife.”

um, yes? obviously. how is this at all relevant? please reread my comment and notice the part where i said i have NO issue with it being labeled a PSD. it’s a PSD, clearly. like i said the first time, i have no idea why people are complaining about the ad appearing on this blog.

  • Sr. D

Farid? He’s Aamir Khan. A BIG Bollywood star. No, I’m not indian. Bollywood flicks are global nowadays, so that kind of jokes came frustatenly out of place.

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_37SPQ6YRIFMP4TLVYAMKUMYP6U Gabriel

And about her (lack off) colar bones? What happened to them? By judging her posing… what the hell happened to ALL bones in her body?

Although people DO say that drinking coke softens your bones… THAT’S what they meant!

  • Tome

Right, so now let’s see her drink it. Go on. We’re watching.

  • http://twitter.com/arnoen Arno Enzo

No joke, people, I really can do that with the arm like she does (I didn’t even have to ask my girlfriend!). It’s not even all that awkward, and certainly not impossible. I’m more wondering about her right arm. Compared to the rest of her body that looks awfully thin, and more awkwardly positioned than the other arm (unless she’s a gorilla in disguise…)

    • Anon

I can also do this with my arm. And it looks just as strange and unnatural in real life as it does in that picture. I’m sure that it was shopped, because no photographer would photograph a model doing that, but it is possible.

      The cutouts are unforgivable, though.

    • http://ravyn-skye.livejournal.com/ RavynSkye

    • Estelle

I’d be inclined to say you have to have a half-calcified shoulder joint to NOT be able to do that. I don’t even find the position uncomfortable – it’s easier to maintain than the “natural” position people would prefer. I also didn’t think it looks weird, but then, I apparently hang out exclusively with people who have hyperflexible shoulders, so what do I know.

The cut and pasting sucks, but I can believe that the arm was in that position to start with. the hair across the arm looks significantly less chopped up than that on the viewer-left side of her head.

  • bob

    Two questions:
    – Who’s her plastic surgeon, so I don’t let friends go there? (based on this pic only. Yes I did google her to stop being scared)
    – Non-politically correct question: I know lots of Indians (hundreds, from all over), why do these two look like most of their ancestors were Italians? Is that a Bollywood natural selection process?

  • Computergeek7

    Not a disaster,

It’s actually a public health advertisement showing people what too much Coke can do to your joints.

  • http://twitter.com/deedeewarren dizzle

What happened to the other one that was up?

  • allison

My shoulder hurts just looking at it.

  • Bored

I’m realizing that I came here as much for the writing as the PsD’s. The writing sucks now.

    • Shkaev

      true, it really does

    • Jonny Dade

Yeah and i’m sick of grown people throwing their dummies out of the pram, with lame names like ‘bored’. I don’t mind people having a moan, but not when their comments are at the top of page. It’s like, step 1 – see the amusing picture, step 2 – end that short moment of humour by reading some sucker whining about ‘the writing’.

      • Devil’s Advocate

In all fairness, you could just stop after step 1. You don’t have to read the comments.

        • Jonny Dade

True, but i believe, and i think the majority of people will agree with me on this, that it’s the comments that makes this site. The PSD’s are good, but the comments are just classic (most of the time) Now, anyone for a camping trip?

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100001145933914 Martin Grüning

    Ai. Disgusting. I don’t like disangled, transparent arms – they seem like… uhm… incomplete…

  • Galileo

First of all, my compliments to the new team. You have managed to maintain the level on your comments. Secondly, why did the advertisers bend her arm in this android-like fashion. Was it because the ad had a max width, and the exceeded it?

  • http://www.google.com/profiles/cookie.tm Stefan

both coke bottles appear to relate to their own centers of gravity – but the arm pose successfully distracts many from that scientific achievement

  • LtPowers

Those are really small coke bottles!

“But the legendary cotortionist Aishwarya Rai is known the world around for adjusting the size and shape of her limbs to fulfill the wanton desires of any ad exec.” I am dying hahahahahaahah :D Brilliant!

  • http://ravyn-skye.livejournal.com/ RavynSkye

Um… His hand is freaking HUGE. Also, I’m not sure she dislocated her shoulder so much as her arm is just floating in space. :/

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_ESDENNCXC4ZAQMIWLJ63Y7ENHU MeghanL

She is Indian so she does a lot of yoga, durrrrr. That doesn’t explain the small coke bottle though.

  • Coke Addict

Man, I thought those old 6 ounce Coke bottles were small. I had no idea they sold it in 3 ounce bottles in India.

  • Gdfg

    Farid??
    Racist much?
As in, all Indians are named Farid?

  • http://www.thomgourley.com/ Thom Gourley

The arm position reminds me of a scene in Deliverance. :)

  • Gowssian Blerr

The bottle’s behind her head, right? No reflection on the bottle… AAAAAH, VAMPIRE!!!!

  • C. V. Reynolds

I’m not doubting that this is a PSD, but… I can actually do that with my arms, as I am double-jointed. It’s definitely far from the most comfortable position, but it is possible.

  • http://redeyeloon.blogspot.com/ RedEyeLoon

    Ouch.

  • Huh

I have no idea what’s wrong with her arm. Even after reading the comments, i still don’t get it. I can make that pose, and I’m not even that flexible. I even tried it in the mirror. Wtffffff

  • Guest

I can dislocate my shoulder. But that’s not the point here. The point here is that the pose is unnatural. 1st, look at the level of the shoulders. Her left shoulder would have to be raised to do that. 2nd, look at where her forearm is. It is below the level of her head. Which is impossible, unless she has very short upper arms. But knowing that Aishwarya Rai is a legendary beauty, I highly doubt that this would be the case. What I think happened was, like in any photoshoot, there were many pictures of her. There was a picture of her in a similar pose, like with her arm on top of her head or something. But someone didn’t like her face or something in that one. So they took a shot with a better look, but the arm was in an undesirable position. So what did they do? They pasted an arm onto another photo. And this is the result. If it were really her natural pose, you would be able to tell. But, obviously here, something is off. And that is why it is on this website. There.
