Audi RS5:Vampyrsprung durch Technik

car reflection

Legend has it that the only way to recognize the vampire Audi is by looking at the reflection of the reflection. Stalking its prey on the highways this beast sucks the oil from it’s hapless victims after first liquifying their exoskeleton.

Thanks Naxo for the submission. You can see the original here. If you can’t see the PSD, please check out our red image gallery to see the marked up version.

Of course, also the reflection that does show in the mirror appears to be about 3m off the ground… perhaps the lead car is really, really tall?

    • davidikus

      It’s not a car, it’s a Transformer…

      • http://www.facebook.com/woody.silva Brian Silva

        More than meets the eye.

  • Pete

Thats no PSD because of the missing reflection on the car. There cannot be the audi, because the angle to look through the mirror after reflecting in the coating is different than that one the camera should have.
Besides that the reflection in the mirror itself is a real PSD, the street behind the car would have to do a 45 degree bend into the air to get this view.

  • OurJames

Um, does anyone find it odd that the reflected car’s license plate reads correctly in a mirror?

Warning: Objects in mirror may be closer than they appear and are not reversed left-to-right.

    • Howard J. Wilk

You can read the license plate in the mirror because the characters are written reversed–like with AMBULANCE–so you can read the plate of the car that’s about to overtake you. Nah, it’s a mistake.

      • Jshook

I thought of the AMBULANCE thing, but there are so many other ineptitudes here that I just lumped it in with all of the other mistakes. I lived in Germany for a while, and the license plates are not reversed for convenient reading in rearview mirrors.

        • Howard J. Wilk

feelinanon, Jshook: of course I was joking! Please note that after my “joke” I wrote “Nah, it’s a mistake.”

      • feelinanon

No. License plates are not written backwards…you don’t need to read someone’s plate from your mirror. I hope you were joking?

  • Darkstar

There is so much wrong with this PSD that words can’t even begin to describe it.

    - Missing reflection in the door
    - totally wrong angle of the car in the mirror
    - totally wrong angle of the “lead” car to the edge of the street (okay, maybe it’s indeed just drifting out of the road)
    - readable license plate in the mirror

    …I’m sure there’s more I didn’t find yet

Has anyone noticed that each entry here has TWO separate distinct comment trees tacked onto it? One is where you land when expanding the initial page; the other feeds off of the pic you see when you bail with the big_red_circle_of_death. Klutzy.

On the bright side: finally a PSD!

EDIT: To the powers that be: Probably a significant number of visitors here could show you how to have an alternate graphic (the circled pic) pop up neatly and cleanly. That would be more elegant than a shadow blog.

If only we weren’t on Blogger! I will need another 2-3months until we can move to WordPress.

I think the sudden bend the other road causing the lead car to be so close to the curve……

  • Benjamin_tietz

by the way, it is an RS3 people O_o

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_L5DQFVHHBFI4PF2NWAP3RBJAHA kleenex

It is not a PSD folks, that is just a sticker placed on the mirror.

  • armadillo_in_furs

The unwritten and written (in the top right corner of the main page here) agreement is that PSD should be COMMERCIAL IMAGES.

    Here’s the thing:

The main car in the photo is BMW 1Series M Coupe. The photo on the BMW website is:

    http://www.bmw.com/_common/shared/newvehicles/mseries/m1coupe/2010/showroom/gallery/_img/preview_bmw_m1series_coupe_11.jpg

The reflected car is Audi RS 3 Sportback: http://www.audi.de/de/brand/de/neuwagen/a3/rs_3_sportback.html

The SOURCE page is a private BLOG. The article in Spanish filtered through Google translate is about how Audi is OVERTAKING BMW in the battle of compact sports cars. The image with the pasted in Audi is most likely created FOR THIS BLOG to illustrate the metaphorical Audi-BMW battle. As such, it is NOT a commercial image. It is NOT created by either Audi or BMW.

    • Bob

      This.
And that fact that the car missing from the reflection is the only thing in the image that can be explained easily. It’s a major (amateur) PSD, but they’re pointing at the wrong “mistake”.

    • swell_swell

Just because it wasn’t created by Audi or BMW doesn’t mean it wasn’t “professionally created.” Magazines can create images too — how many of those have we seen? Hmm? Whether the blog this is from counts as “professional” is a matter of opinion — I can definitely say it is a monetized blog and clearly is pitching itself as a place to go for car information.

  • Bob

    Your point being?

    • Anon

Yeah, I’m really not getting what the point of that post was… I guess it told me a little bit about the guy that owns the PSD name? He’s affiliated with Microsoft so I guess he’s… evil?

  • Tyler

Expect to be banned from commenting, just like I have been 5 times already.

It only takes 5 minutes to reset the router though and come back, just enough time to make a cup of tea.

  • Tyler

Wasn’t this the one you posted for the quickly-removed ‘caption competition’? Maybe you should have let it run a bit longer.

  • Marcelo

Nobody notices that the road curve in the mirror is going to the wrong direction?

    • http://twitter.com/arnoen Arno Enzo

      It’s a really sharp S-curve… ;)

  • Molitor

This isn’t a disaster, my girlfriend can do this. Adjust all the mirrors in my car so they defy reality.

  • djembe1

In addition, another reflection of (part of) the mirror in the window is also missing the mirror contents.

  • Bob

Now THATS a PSD. More like this plz.

  • Ergle

A touch of basic physics/geometry for everybody… a reflection of a mirror (as on the car door) will never show the same image as you see reflected directly looking at the mirror. Even when carefully aligned to reflect directly back to each other, successive mirrors’ reflections will show perspective, resulting in the “infinite”ly reducing copies of the same image popularly considered to be optical illusion, when in fact the eye is correctly reporting image content to the brain.

In this case, the combined angles from the POV to the door to the mirror look to me as if the image reflected on the door should be of the sky – and that’s what it looks like to me.

The failure to reverse the reflection shows up in more than the license plate. As shown, if we are looking at the driver’s-side rear view mirror, the two drivers are sitting on opposite sides of the cars!

Coolest PSD in a while, IMO. Especially since it would have taken all of two seconds to make it right!

    • Ergle

Wait, maybe you’ll get the same image using the right combination of convex/concave mirrors. But how could you tell?

  • BrianT

This was already posted under 2007 and it pointed out the reflection on the door.

    • Roo0

      You win!

  • Seetroll

Anybody noticed the licence plate in the mirror is not mirrored?

    • VenusinScales

Oh, but that was done on purpose. See, the WHOLE IMAGE is seen in a mirror. So what you see in the car’s mirror is a reflection of a reflection, so the licence plate is correct. Not a PSD. I want my money back. Unsubscriberering.

  • Debrah0827

On reflection, this is a psd.

  • Craig

What about the fact that the car that we’re right next to is at the left edge of the road and there’s a whole lane to the left, but only in the mirror?

And, of course, there’s no reflection of the camera…

  • guest

You can clearly see the photographer in the reflection of the mirror on the car…

  • BKeys

Its pretty interesting to see things like this.. As a Digi Comm student this is a basic thing to look for in your final product if you want to impress people.

  • saphyra

vcs podem ver o reflexo tbm está errado.
o carro anda em curva para a direita e o reflexo mostra ele indo para a esquerda!!

  • Andrew

“sucks the oil from it’s hapless victims ”

    Aaargh! Punctuationshop disaster

  • jinx

I especially love how they were too stupid to even think about flipping the reflection…

  • Its you’re language

Being a site about others’ failures, you really should take care about any typos before you end up in someone’s other blog. So you can understand me: its you’re language.
