Photoshop Quiz: Britney Spears

The image below of Britney Spears has been sent into us a few times over the last month and I’d like for you to vote on whether or not you think it’s a disaster.

    They moved the left  arm into her chest because it was in bad position to put “The Hottest Guy Of The Middle East  p.71″ Total Disaster

    Her entire left upper arm is coming out of her upper chest – that part is obvious.  Her entire right arm seems to be from an entirely different shot and stuck on to her body a bit too forward, and no human can turn their neck like that.  Also, I don’t understand how her dress could be hanging in that position in the front when she isn’t posed for that to happen…and finally, if they were going to Photoshop the &@*!! out of this picture, then why didn’t they make her thighs smaller?  (And no, her waist is not that small.)

      The main problem is the aggressive airbrushing of her wrinkles / natural folds from holding her arm across her body. They also shrunk her waist. I have no idea what you’re imagining is wrong with her right arm or neck. There’s nothing remotely unusual about their position or appearance.

    What the hell is that mess they’ve made of her left arm? There’s no excuse for this. Unemployment is high, there must be excellent Photoshop retouchers who’d be happy to do that job, instead of their apparent current “artist” All-Thumbs McBlindy.

    Surely if her arm/elbow was extending towards the camera to get that amount of foreshortening then (a) her elbow would be closest part of her anatomy to the camera and therefore a bit larger than it appears (and maybe a bit soft due to depth of field and (b) there would be deeper shadowing across from the shoulder joint across her chest and on the facing side of her forearm. If it really is genuine then WTF did the art editor pick that shot when they must have had better ones, that would be a crime almost as bad as Photoshop ineptitude.

    In addition to the left arm coming out of her chest, the finger-in-place-of-a-thumb on the right hand is worrying me.

      Totally. The chestsicle arm is weird, the extended extra jointed thumb is freaky.

      That whole edge from her armpit to her wrist got hacked at. Should have saved the thumb for later.

    I think it’s not a disaster ’cause Britney was a very flexible and athletic girl, so, perhaps the drugs and alcohol could have genetically modified her body changing her on a sort of elastic woman.

    Found the original. Aggressive airbrushing, shrunk waist, and poorly colored roots are the main offenses. But I only consider this a disaster because the poor execution of technique, not the decision to manipulate. There isn’t any stitching or major warping of body parts (beyond the too-small waist).

    Did a little more digging—apparently this photo was also used in a different cover from Cosmo Norway, only for that one, the photoshopping was actually competent.

      Yeah, comparing the two you can clearly see how bad photoshopping is done and how good photoshopping exists, sometimes.

    You would think that the person that PhotoShops the Cosmo cover is some kind of Photoshop God or Goddess. You know rocking at the clubs with a posse and going on Oprah talking about how to make PERFECT boobs. Ya thats what we need a Photoshopping media sensation! OOPS oh wait. It all has to be kept secret. Nevermind.

    Yes: aside from the implausible waist, the left arm is not experiencing 3 dimensions the same way the rest of her is

    Based on the real picture that someone posted, its obvious that they tried to remove the wrinkles around her left arm so that it wouldn’t give away that her arms aren’t the size of straws. Unfortunately they forgot that it made the upper arm about 2 cm long.

    Her waist isn’t logical since she’s turned around like that. And because they have removed wrinkles and fat without bothering about her body looking plausible.

    She has no collar bone, no wrinkles and an arm coming out of her chest. I don’t see the problem at all! Also, her waist is un-naturally thin but kudos for keeping her ass as large as I’m sure it really is in real life.

    The left arm is attached to her chest via some sort of webbing, plus Britney’s waist was bigger than that when she was 6.

    I noticed her shoulder had become dislocated presumably due
    to her skin shrinking, but her thumb sucked down to the bone.

    I don’t even think she is really wearing that dress. Something about the outline screams ‘fraud’ to me. In fact, I’ll put money where my mouth is, that’s a ‘shopped’ dress, never mind all that other stuff, which is a disaster in itself.

    Besides the arm, the finger and the waist, there’s also the fact that her face looks like it’s been added on another girl’s body. Might be too much airbrushing, might be a bad makeup or lighting job, but it’s not flattering.

    Gotta say that I don’t mind the wrinkle removal here and there and the harsh line beneath her arm is unfortunate and probably the photographer’s fault, but clearly the phaser was set to kill in the arm & chest area :-)

      What strikes me (beside the left arm disaster and the out-of-this-world (or century, at least) thin waist) is that they felt necessary to enlarge the dress to cover more thighs and chest. WTF? Compare with the European version, where they just lowered the hem of the dress a little, mainly to cover the unflattering dent in the buttocks.

    Apparently over 300 people can’t see how abnormally skinny she is or how short her left arm became… its not a dis on brittany herself so dont tell people to leave her alone, its more a dis on the designer who failed at photoshopping.

    Brit’s left arm looks exactly like a 50s-style lamp I used to own, including its flat (and precarious) base.  Maybe the PSer picked it up at my yard-sale . . . ?

    PSD because of mutant arm with square elbow.  Additionally… artist needs to learn how to draw lashes, lips and skin.  Really…watch a youtube PS tutorial or something!

    Folded arm is fake, mis-sized and ‘joined’ awkwardly.  Her waist is disproportionate, as are her arm on the hip and Im betting those thighs are fake too.
