Mitt Romney: Layers of Lies

Don’t worry Governor Romney. You’re not the first man to try and impress people by using Photoshop to make things look wider and larger.

Photoshop Disasters

Anthony Weiner tweets an unphotoshopped picture of his lifelong running mate and commits political suicide. Romney tells dozens of lies and instagrams a blatant photoshop, and he’s neck and neck with the President at the polls. I don’t claim to understand American Politics, but then again, we have our own personality-devoid politician to worry about here in Canada.

Thanks to about a dozen people who sent this into us. You can see the original on BuzzFeed.

I strongly suspect that this isn’t so much “blatantly photoshopped” as “an appallingly badly stitched iPhone panorama”. Nice to see that the Romney team takes the same approach to graphic quality as they do to fact checking.

  • Adam

That kinda looks more like a badly stitched panorama (like the kind a smartphone app would make) than a PSD. If it was an app, that would also be a more likely explanation for it being on Instagram.

    • https://twitter.com/BryceBladon Bryce Bladon

Bad image editing is bad image editing.

      • sandwyrm

I’m no Romney (or Obama) fan, but this is pretty clearly an auto-stitched panorama image from some sort of in-camera (smartphone?) app. Whoever took the pic obviously didn’t stand still as they turned around.

Went to the original link and looked at their breakdown. But as a 20-year Photoshop expert, I found nothing that looked at all cloned or manipulated beyond the blatantly bad auto-stitching of a panorama. Not even a first year art student would try and pass off something this badly done.

Does anyone really think that a deliberately manipulated image from the Romney campaign would misspell their man’s name? Look at the banners in the background, the bad stitching makes one say “Romnemny”.

The release of the image shows a lack of discernment by the campaign, but not dishonesty. Though there’s enough of that to be found elsewhere from both candidates.

Oh ? Is there no “GimpDisaster”, “AutopanoDisaster”, “PaintDisaster” website ? :-)

    • Rich

I agree I had that exact mishap happen to me on my smart phone while shooting in Panorama, ESP if you pan too slow. Secondly since it was on sent on Instagram that confirms it. Good observation Adam!

    • CyberKiller

A badly done panorama was also my first thought.

  • http://twitter.com/nicolesy Nicole S. Young

Looks to me like a poorly executed in-camera panorama.

  • HM

On the “dozens of lies” link, if you change “mitt-romney” to “barack-obama” in the url, you’ll get four pages rather than two. Just sayin’.

    • Ultra_Orange

Politifact.com has been a hard right from the begining. Zou can find dozens of of their articles and verdicts that are in direct contradiction to everything from actual audio, congressional records and news sources. The only place they align is Fox. Youäll find even more funny verdicts if zou look up Joe Biden they have him on the wrong side of issues that he hasn’t changed in his whole career.

        Hahahahahahaha!

    • https://twitter.com/BryceBladon Bryce Bladon

Unfortunately, it was not a picture posted by Barack Obama’s campaign. I believe in equality, and if the Obama campaign makes an image-editing gaffe, by God, I will mock him with equal fervour.

    • Chris Mielke

Sad that even in my Photoshop Disasters blog run by a Canadian we have to take pot shots at Mitt Romney. The results with Barack Obama are equal to or just as bad as Romney. Onto muchbetter disasters next time.

    • RobinH

obama simply has more total pages of statements true, false, and in between than does Romney, so of course he’ll have more pages of false statements. But Romney’s statements have been found less than “half-true” 41% of the time (as of just a few minutes ago), while Obama’s only at 28%. Mind you, the fact that over a quarter of what comes out of either of their mouths is pretty blatant lies, I’m not a huge fan of either.

  • http://twitter.com/RDJim RD Jim

Looks like a poorly done stitch to me. Of course if you’d rather believe the worse in a politician because you’re a liberal douche, then, yep – it’s photoshop (TM).

    • https://twitter.com/BryceBladon Bryce Bladon

I’ll believe the worst in a politician because they’re a politician.

Bad Panoramic stitching — now Photoshop.

  • Ultra_Orange

Is it a surprise they would lie in thier photo when they lie in all of thier speeches and ads_

  • Buckwheat

Some people have been asking why they would release such a poor photo. Others have jumped to the conclusion that his was intentionally shopped to look like a bigger crowd. Here is the kicker, no matter which it is (likely a poor stitching job) the question is why post it? The answer is PT Barnum and you clicked on it and are reading about it.

agreed, suspect bad panorama stitch rather than shameless photoshop-ing

Seeing how great Canada’s free healthcare is, maybe your rich people should stop coming over here for top quality care. Or you could just stop infecting this Photoshop site with snide partisan bullshit that’s not even related to your own country.

Let me sing you the song of my people.

Definitely a bad panorama stitch. Anybody who’s ever actually used such software would recognize it instantly. Still, it shows that whoever created the composite to post to Twitter is pretty clearly an idiot.

  • AB

This is just a poor panorama shot, hardly worth a rant on lying politicians.

  • Jed

I get enough politics everywhere else; don’t need it on a “fun” site. Unsubscribing from the feed; Congratulations, you just lost a reader.

    • Bev

      Aw, here’s a tissue.

As for politics, I am the only member of the PsD team who is actually a U.S. citizen, and I’d be willing to bet that no one here has any idea (or cares!) how I’ll be voting next Tuesday. We make fun of both sides equally, and as Bryce said above, if/when Obama’s team releases a photo like this and 50+ fans send us the link, we will feature that image too. Doesn’t matter if it’s right wing, left wing, or wing nut, we make fun of bad graphic design.

You may have noticed that we’ve recently featured lots of doctored photos of Polish and German politicians, but I don’t hear anybody booing and unsubscribering over those. It’s all just for fun — we have no political agenda.

      • Raschko

Of course nobody from europe booed, maybe one reason was that we know that no matter if you’re from canada or usa you never could distinct any of our parties. As you proofed in on of your latest posts you are having trouble to differ germany from the netherlands…

(Sorry, but you started to get political)

If someone would ask me I would vote Obama (like 98% (!) of all germans would
too as a recent poll stated) but this post was so clearly political motivated
that it did a favor to Romney more than a harm… I’m not saying that a place
like this has to be complete unpolitical, but at least do it honestly. By the
way: I respect that of course I as a german have nothing to say regarding the
US-Votes, it’s just my personal opinion.

  • TacoDave

    I agree with everyone else.

    1) This is not a PSD, but a poorly-done panorama photo.

    2) This kind of political rant does not belong on a site like this one and will drive people away. I stopped visiting all of the Cheezburger sites for the same reason.

In other news, I can’t wait until Romney gets elected next week. Hearing the wails from my co-citizens in Portland will be fun.

    • https://twitter.com/BryceBladon Bryce Bladon

My apologies if the post came across as partisan. I’m making fun of the subject in the poorly edited picture. In this case, the Romney Campaign.

  • http://www.facebook.com/tom.brickhouse Tom Brickhouse

Yes it is a badly stitched panorama but you will notice that every seat is filled. And leave your misguided political opinions off this site please.
