Vogue: Mind Your Head

This will teach Gwen Stefani to tell her stylist to “take a little off the top.”

The longer you look at this Vogue cover, the stranger it looks. First, there’s the awkward spider pose they’ve got poor Gwen in, then there’s the little matter of her teeny head and normal-sized face. C’mon, guys… we’re sure your readers will still know it’s Vogue if her head covers the “G.”

Thanks for sending us this link, Helena.

Didn’t you notice a hat covering the top of her head?

    • http://twitter.com/bevtastic7 Beverly Jenkins

Yes, there’s a hat there, but with giant letters between the hat and the background? Fine, it’s a design fail… created in Photoshop. Not a psd — okay. Tomato, tomato.

It´s creatively done in Word and Paint, in this worlds isn´t any disaster, as erverybody knows!

This is creatively done in Paint and Word. And as everybody knows, in this worlds there is nothing like a disaster!

  • yvi

omg she is wearing a hat?!

  • Nathan

Never mind the head – what the hell is she wearing on her ankles?

    • Reece_c

      …pretty sure they’re shoes….

  • http://twitter.com/phevans Phil Evans

It looks odd because they’ve slipped the title inbetween her head and the hat, but it’s definitely a hat rather than her head being warped.

    • Kirsty

      I agree.
A bad design choice, tho’ not PSD

Or you could just google “Gwen Stefani” and look at the images and see that nothing is going on here. Yup she’s wearing a hat.

  • cm

she is using a big hat

  • Nigel

That is a psd for sure, why would someone even design that, it looks so clumsy

  • AJ

You should look at the vogue spreads thats horrible desiign work

  • Gasp

Unbelievable nerdy and uninteresting post. The whole point is to whine about the text being placed between the hat and her face? OOOOMMMMGG!

    • Waldobaby

Your point is what? Someone skillfully made a warped picture, complete with Zorro ankles, and there’s a hat. When you get proof that Vogue is so lame, what more can you possibly want? A hat?

Notice that there is a big black circle at the top of the picture. Other than crowd consensus or wishful thinking saying there is, there is no damned hat there.

      • ixache

I’m sorry to diasagree, but there was a hat, a big, pitch black, round hat. You can see it in other pictures, and also in the video promoting the shoot, where she is even holding it.

BTW, the Zorro stylings are from the Yves Saint Laurent spring 2013 collection, I learnt. You can also find about the shoes, if you really must.

        • Reece_c

exactly. Im not sure the point of this post. Is it the fact that ppl cant see the hat or they dont like the outfit? I personally think that the layout design is esthetically good, which is something you would expect from a fashion magazine. The fact that the title is in the same color pallet of the back ground allows your eye to ignore it and let the hat stand out better…its not their fault some ppls minds dont work that way…and the outfit is amazing btw

          • ixache

For the record, I have to say that I find the cover design idiotic. IOW: don’t put no floating letters between hat and hair, it’s weird!

And it is “their” fault for not considering that most peoples’ mind don’t work the way of a fashion mag designer’s. (Not that “they” care. Actually, “they” even “discare” “us”.)

I for one didn’t see the hat until I read the comments. I thought someone had ‘shopped off the top off her head. So I have to agree that this is by definition BAD DESIGN.

  • lee

I don’t even think she took the picture with the hat on. I believe it was photoshopped in because there needed to be a contrast due to Gwen’s hair, the Vogue logo and the background all belonging to the same colour group.

I’m not sure about it being a disaster… it’s photoshopped of course… vogue = photoshopped. But I think the circle behind her is suppose to be the hat she is wearing which would make sense why her head seem cut off from the top. I don’t think they should of photoshopped vogues under the hat. They could of chose a different picture. But… I don’t know. I am going to say it isn’t a disaster. That pose will make you look elongated from the arms, it is just an illusion.

    re-coloring the hat

Definitely a hat, and definitely a PSD to make her look like a shrunken-head freak.

    • http://twitter.com/bevtastic7 Beverly Jenkins

Exactly what I’ve been saying. Thank you, Karen.
